More than 1.4 million people in Poland experience hunger. This is a dramatic number that hides real human stories - daily struggles, undernourishment, a sense of helplessness. According to data from the Central Statistical Office, every 19th resident of our country lives in extreme poverty, and as many as 5.2% of households function below the extreme poverty threshold. Another 13.3% are people living in relative poverty, meaning in conditions significantly deviating from the average standard of living.
Meanwhile, the latest report from the Federation of Polish Food Banks reveals that:
🔸 60% of households declare that they buy food with borrowed money,
🔸 more than 30% of Poles admit to feeling hunger for financial reasons,
🔸 and as many as 19% experience it regularly.
October 16 - World Food Day and Fight Against Hunger - is not just a date on the calendar. It is a day that prompts reflection, but also action.
As every year, the Kuyavian-Pomeranian Regional Branch of the Polish Red Cross in Bydgoszcz actively participated in the celebrations of this day by organizing a warm, shared meal for the most needy: the lonely, seniors, families in difficult situations, homeless individuals, and those at risk of social exclusion.
On our tables, there was aromatic pea soup with sausage and fresh bread - we served over 260 portions. For children, we prepared colorful sandwiches that not only satisfied hunger but also brought smiles to the youngest faces.

We also distributed 200 packages of long-term food, which were prepared thanks to the generosity of our donors. It was the residents who donated products to our baskets that contributed to so many people feeling that they are not alone.

The event was accompanied by a warm, friendly atmosphere. There were conversations, smiles, and touching expressions of gratitude. For many participants, it was not just a meal - it was a moment when they could feel noticed and important.
This initiative is real help but also a gesture of solidarity and social sensitivity. Because hunger and poverty are among us - often right next to us, though invisible at first glance.
From the bottom of our hearts we thank everyone who supported our action - donors, volunteers, partners, and everyone who contributed their share to this beautiful initiative.
Together we can do more.
