7 principles of PCK

The International Red Cross and Red Crescent Movement always adheres to seven fundamental principles in fulfilling its mission, which are constant and not influenced by current ideologies.

The International Red Cross and Red Crescent Movement, born out of a concern for providing aid to the wounded on the battlefield without making any distinction between them, strives, both internationally and nationally, to prevent human suffering in all circumstances and to alleviate it. It aims to protect life and health and ensure respect for human dignity. It contributes to mutual understanding, friendship, and cooperation, as well as to lasting peace among all nations.

Humanitarianism

Image

The International Red Cross and Red Crescent Movement makes no distinction based on nationality, race, religion, social status, or political beliefs. It is solely focused on providing assistance to those in suffering, guided by their needs and prioritizing the most urgent cases.

Impartiality

Image

In order to maintain public trust, the International Red Cross and Red Crescent Movement refrains from participating in armed conflicts and — at all times — in disputes of a political, racial, religious, or ideological nature.

Neutrality

Image

The International Red Cross and Red Crescent Movement is independent. National societies, while assisting public authorities in their humanitarian activities and subject to the law in force in their countries, should always exercise autonomy allowing them to act at all times in accordance with the principles of the Movement.

Independence

Image

The International Red Cross and Red Crescent Movement provides assistance voluntarily, without pursuing any profit.

Voluntariness

Image

In each country, there is only one association of the Red Cross or Red Crescent. It should be open to everyone and encompass its humanitarian activities throughout the entire country.

Unity

Image

The International Red Cross and Red Crescent Movement encompasses its activities worldwide.

Pervasiveness

Help us endlessly

Thanks to the kindness and support of our Donors, we can help children, seniors, support medical rescuers, promote the idea of blood donation, and implement many other projects that save lives in times of conflict or humanitarian crises. Every donation and every form of support is significant because the Polish Red Cross connects those in need with those who want to provide help. Let’s help together!

The oldest Polish humanitarian organization

PCK History

The history of the Polish Red Cross (PCK) began in 1919, when various humanitarian organizations operating in Poland united to form the Polish Red Cross Society under the patronage of Helena Paderewska. In 1927, the name was changed to the Polish Red Cross, and the organization was given the status of an association of higher utility. In the interwar period, the PCK conducted extensive activities, including training rescuers, organizing medical assistance, and educating young people.

During World War II, the PCK actively supported wounded soldiers and civilians, running hospitals, medical points, and helping to search for missing people. Despite occupational restrictions and repressions, the organization continued its mission, and its role was particularly visible during the Warsaw Uprising and during the exhumation in Katyn. After the war, the PCK rebuilt its network of facilities, conducted care and rescue activities, and organized blood donation stations.

In the post-war years, the Polish Red Cross expanded its activities, promoting voluntary blood donation, providing first aid training, and engaging in humanitarian actions. During martial law, the organization provided assistance to internees and their families. Currently, the Polish Red Cross carries out tasks in line with social needs, runs the Information and Search Office, and actively participates in international humanitarian actions. The legal basis for the activities of the Polish Red Cross is the Act of 1964, and its structure is based on the National Congress, the Main Board, and the Main Audit Commission.
