Yesterday we commemorated the 80th anniversary of the outbreak of the Warsaw Uprising. It is worth remembering how important a role the Polish Red Cross (PCK) played during that difficult time. From the first days of the uprising, PCK medics, nurses, and paramedics patrolled the streets of Warsaw, rescuing the wounded and sick, and also ran their own clinics and hospitals, which unfortunately often became the target of enemy attacks.
Thanks to the negotiations of hr. Maria Tarnowska, vice president of PCK, it was possible to evacuate 20,000 civilians from the insurgent Warsaw under the flag of the Red Cross – this historic flag is now on display at the Warsaw Uprising Museum.
At the invitation of the Kielce Delegation of the Institute of National Remembrance, representatives of the Świętokrzyskie Regional Branch of the Polish Red Cross – Rafał Maziejuk, Kacper Malus – from the PCK Rescue Group Kielce, and Maja Szczukiewicz – participated in the official ceremonies held in Kielce. The ceremony began at the Garrison Church and then moved to the Square of the Grey Ranks.
Let us remember the heroism and sacrifice of those who fought for our freedom.
