From May 9 to 12, 2024, Hel hosted nationwide search and rescue exercises under the codename “Peninsula 2024”. For several days, the city transformed into one of the best-secured places in the country, thanks to the presence of many specialized rescue units and services.
Rescuers from the Polish Red Cross participated in the operations, representing the Rescue and Humanitarian Aid Systems, officers from the Pomeranian Police, the State Fire Service, and numerous Volunteer Fire Service units. The aim of the exercises was to improve response procedures in crisis situations, such as mass accidents, specialized rescue operations (including technical and high-altitude) and coordinated search actions in open terrain.

“Peninsula 2024” – Hel became the center of safety in Poland for several days
The scenarios of the simulated events were prepared with great realism – participants faced difficult conditions, additional complications, and limited time, which required complete concentration and precise actions both in the command center and in the field.
A key element of the success of these exercises was also the presence and involvement of the actors from the SIM PCK Wejherowo Group, who added authenticity to the training by playing the role of victims in various scenarios.
“Peninsula 2024” is not only a test of procedures but also a great opportunity for exchanging experiences and strengthening cooperation among rescue services from different regions of Poland. Thanks to such initiatives, we increase the effectiveness of responses to real threats and raise the level of safety for citizens.
