May 8th - World Red Cross and Red Crescent Day. A sign that saves lives.

May 8th is a special date for humanitarianism - World Red Cross and Red Crescent Day. On this day, we commemorate the idea of providing selfless assistance, which unites millions of volunteers around the world. The Red Cross and the Red Crescent are not just symbols - they are internationally protected protective signs, giving hope and support to those in need during times of war, disasters, and crises.

Important!

The Red Cross symbol (as well as the Red Crescent) cannot be used arbitrarily - it is a legally protected symbol, and its use is strictly regulated by the Geneva Conventions. It is meant to serve the protection of the injured, sick, and those who assist them. Improper use can lead to misinformation and endanger the lives of real rescuers and victims.

On this day, it’s worth recalling the significance of these symbols and expressing gratitude to all volunteers and staff of the Red Cross and Red Crescent movement who work every day for those in need – often in the most difficult conditions.

May 8th be an opportunity for reflection, education, and for building a world based on the values of solidarity, humanitarianism, and respect for life.
