The Polish Red Cross (PCK) is actively involved in rescue operations in southern Poland, where floods are ravaging further towns.

PCK Rescue Teams not only support evacuations in disaster-affected areas, but also provide essential resources, working with local authorities, firefighters, and the military.

The Polish Red Cross is on the front line of aid for the affected:

  1. Transportation of the most needed equipment arrived overnight in Środa Śląska and Jelenia Góra

  2. The Polish Red Cross continues a nationwide collection of funds to assist flood victims, while simultaneously launching a collection of goods

  3. The Medical Rescue Group of PCK from Wrocław joins the aid efforts in Głuchołazy

Jelenia Góra is in a critical situation, where water from the Bóbr and Młynówka rivers has begun to overflow the flood barriers, flooding part of the city. Authorities have issued warnings and are urging residents to prepare for evacuation, especially in areas close to the Kamienna and Wrzosówka rivers. Recent reports confirm that in many places in the Lower Silesian Voivodeship, infrastructure has been destroyed, and over 40% of the Kłodzko Land is without power.

Flooded streets, severed bridges, and cut-off households make the rescuers' efforts not only difficult but also dangerous. Medical Rescue Groups and Humanitarian Aid Groups of PCK are helping evacuate residents and organizing temporary shelters, providing water, food, and basic hygiene products.

In Kłodzko, the Polish Red Cross organized the transport of equipment worth 650,000 PLN.
During the night, 8 power generators, 20 heaters, 1000 blankets, and 1000 field beds with accessories arrived in Środa Śląska from Lublin. The equipment will help provide shelter and comfort for evacuated residents who have lost access to electricity and heat.

In Jelenia Góra, where the evacuation of residents from the most endangered areas is ongoing, the Polish Red Cross, in close cooperation with the German Red Cross, provided beds, blankets, and hygiene supplies, which enabled the opening of a shelter for evacuees at the I Secondary School at ul. Kochanowskiego 18. This international cooperation highlights the importance of quick and coordinated action in the face of disaster.

– For another day, we remain on the front line of the fight against the elements. Every minute counts, and conditions on the ground can be extreme. We are working with local authorities, the fire service, and the military to reach as many people as possible and provide them with aid. It is not only a matter of logistics but also of human dramas – we see families who have lost everything and are looking for shelter, which is why we are doing everything we can to provide them with support and safety –

says Michał Mikołajczyk, a member of the Management Board of the Polish Red Cross.

The Polish Red Cross is working in close cooperation with local authorities, supporting residents not only on a logistical level but also psychologically. Organized shelters, food deliveries, and essential supplies, as well as rescue operations, are crucial for managing this crisis situation

In response to the enormous needs of affected residents, PCK has also launched a product collection, to provide immediate, effective aid to those who have lost their homes or have been cut off from essential resources.

As part of the collection, the following products are being collected:

  • Bottled water – crucial for ensuring access to clean water, especially where local waterworks have been destroyed, effectively cutting off the local community from drinking water;

  • Long shelf life food – canned goods, crackers, rice, pasta, and other products that will be easy to store and distribute;

  • Hygiene products – soaps, shampoos, toothpaste, diapers, and other personal hygiene items;

  • Cleaning supplies – detergents, disinfectants, protective gloves that will help clean flooded areas and prevent the spread of diseases.

Where can products be delivered?

These products can be delivered to the regional branches of the Polish Red Cross in the voivodeship cities.

The collected products will go directly to the affected, including residents of regions such as Kłodzko, Głuchołazy, Jelenia Góra, and other towns that suffered as a result of this disaster.

This aid will be crucial both now, during the crisis, and in the following days when residents will need support to rebuild their former lives.

Water, long shelf life food, or hygiene products are now the most needed. Together, through financial support or joining the collection of goods, we can provide these people with what is most important – safety, shelter, and hope.

adds Mikołajczyk.
