2The Polish Red Cross (PCK), in response to the increasing flood threat in southern Poland, has launched a nationwide fundraising campaign #NaRatunekPowódź to help those affected by the impending disaster.

Although the full scale of the damage and the number of casualties are not yet known, the current situation in the southern part of the country, especially in the Lower Silesian, Opole, and Małopolskie voivodeships, requires urgent mobilization of resources. The goal of the collection, launched on Saturday morning by the Polish Red Cross, is to ensure a rapid response to the needs of residents when the flood hits with full force.

The situation in the flood-threatened regions is changing minute by minute.

The last few days have brought dramatic hydrological changes in the southern regions of Poland. In towns such as Głuchołazy, Oława, Kłodzko, and Racibórz, rivers are rapidly rising, and water levels in rivers such as Biała Głuchołaska, Ślęza, and Bystrzyca have already exceeded alarm levels. In Głuchołazy, on the night of September 12 to 13, evacuation of about 400 residents was necessary, and local services, including the fire department and military, have been working for another day, intensively strengthening flood barriers.

The situation is changing minute by minute. Rivers are rising rapidly, and intense rainfall, which is expected to last until the end of the weekend, may lead to even greater destruction, as reported by local authorities.

PCK is launching a nationwide collection #NaRatunekPowódź, which will enable rapid assistance to the affected.

The Polish Red Cross, in cooperation with local crisis management teams, rescue services, and local governments, is already preparing to organize assistance for the most affected areas. The collection aims to raise funds that will be immediately used to purchase essential products and equipment. Among the priorities is ensuring the affected receive:

  1. Food packages: In the first phase of the aid action, it will be crucial to deliver food packages to people evacuated from threatened areas.

  2. Drinking water: Damage to the water supply infrastructure and contamination of water are among the more common consequences of floods. PCK is already preparing supplies of drinking water, which will be delivered where local sources cease to function.

  3. .Hygiene packages: The flood also brings a sanitary threat. The water flooding areas is often contaminated, increasing the risk of disease outbreaks. PCK is already planning to deliver hygiene packages, containing cleaning agents, disinfectants, and essential hygiene products.

  4. Purchase of dehumidifiers: After the rescue operation is completed, drying out the flooded buildings will be crucial. The money from the collection will enable the purchase of dehumidifiers, which, once the water level drops, will help restore decent living conditions for residents.

An appeal for support - every zloty counts.

The Polish Red Cross is appealing today to all citizens, companies, and institutions for financial support. The funds collected will allow PCK to respond immediately and implement assistance in flood-affected areas.

Every zloty counts. Thanks to your support, we will be able to help those who already have to evacuate their homes, secure their basic needs, and support them in rebuilding their homes after the disaster has passed. We cannot wait - we must act now to be ready for the worst-case scenarios.

emphasizes Michał Mikołajczyk, a member of the PCK Board.
