A strong earthquake with a magnitude of 7.7 struck Myanmar and Thailand on March 28, causing immense destruction. The tremors were also felt in India, Bangladesh, Laos, and southern China. Teams from the Red Cross working in Myanmar and Thailand have mobilized to provide aid to those affected.
Immediate Red Cross Response
After the earthquake, the Red Cross plays a crucial role in providing assistance to victims and supporting rescue efforts. Rescue teams working to extract people from the rubble and provide first aid to victims work around the clock. Medical teams provide care to the injured, including treating wounds and injuries, as well as supplying essential medications.

The Red Cross provides victims with access to drinking water, food, blankets, clothing, and other essential survival items. Humanitarian aid kits also include sanitary and hygiene products to prevent the spread of diseases. The Red Cross is also tasked with organizing assistance points where disaster-affected individuals can receive psychological support. Emotional support is important to help people cope with the stress and trauma after such an event.
Immense destruction
The full extent of the destruction and official casualty figures remain unknown, but serious damage to critical infrastructure, such as bridges, an airport, and many buildings, including the Red Cross headquarters in Nay Pyi Taw and the Emergency Operations Center in Mandalay, has been confirmed. The impact on people will be catastrophic, and assistance will be needed in the long term.

The primary mission of the Red Cross and the Red Crescent is to respond immediately to disasters and emergencies. Worldwide, including in Poland, we have rescue teams and humanitarian aid experts who are always the first on the scene of a disaster. This was also the case during the recent flooding in southern Poland.
Help needed
The readiness of the teams is made possible by the support of donors. Thank you for helping us. Support the Polish Red Cross Emergency Fund:
