Although six months have passed since the flood in September, many families are still struggling with its consequences. Some have lost their livelihoods, while others have lost their source of income, making support still very much needed.
Rapid response
On the same day that the flood struck southern Poland, the rescue teams of the Polish Red Cross and the Humanitarian Aid Groups were dispatched to assist those affected by the flood, and employees and volunteers of the Polish Red Cross began organizing collections and support for the victims. We helped those evacuated, delivered food to cut-off communities, and reinforced flood embankments.

#reBUILDwithPCK
The hardest part began a few weeks after the flood - planning and coordinating long-term assistance in rebuilding damages. The response to these challenges is the #reBUILDwithPCK program, whose main goal is to rebuild and restore destroyed homes and support the return to normal life.
The Polish Red Cross, with the support of individual, business, and institutional donors, has raised over 40 million zlotys to assist those affected by the flood.

What are we doing?
Financial and material assistance – we will provide families with means to rebuild their homes and renovate them.
So far, 345 households from the municipalities of Bystrzyca Kłodzka and Kłodzko (rural municipality) have qualified for the financial assistance program. Help has reached families from Ołdrzychowice Kłodzkie, Żelazna, Krosnowice, Ścinawica, Wilkanów, Gorzanów, Stary Waliszów, Morzyszów, Bystrzyca Kłodzka, Wójtowice, Pławnica, Zabłocie, Idzików, Młynów, and Międzygórze. To date, we have provided beneficiaries with 1.16 million zlotys, and the amount will ultimately reach 2.62 million zlotys.

Equipping institutions and facilities – we allocate funds for equipping schools, kindergartens, hospitals, and nursing homes.
For the hospitals in Kłodzko and Głuchołazy, we purchased, among other things, an ambulance, professional medical equipment, and an ultrasound machine. We equipped schools and kindergartens in Stronie Śląskie, Ołdrzychowice Kłodzkie, Lewin Brzeski, Jarnołtówek, Bodzanów, Skorogoszcz, and Paczków. In addition, we equipped the nursing home and the Administrative Center of Care and Educational Facilities in Kłodzko and Bystrzyca Kłodzka.

Assistance for families and seniors – in cooperation with local authorities, we reach the most needy families and lonely seniors who often feel helpless in the face of tragedy.
Support for families is not just the aforementioned financial assistance. In the first weeks after the flood, we organized Green Schools for students, and we are currently preparing camps for children and rehabilitation sessions for seniors. Additionally, we delivered fuel and household chemicals to the affected households.

Education for the future – we organize training and workshops that help better prepare for potential future events.
PCK runs an educational program for children and adults under the motto: Be Safe, which teaches how to prepare for crisis events, including floods.
Psychological support – we offer psychological help, as we know how important it is to rebuild not only the house but also the sense of safety and stability.
Wise helping
The reBUILD program with PCK is an example of wise helping that focuses on the real needs of affected communities. Alongside immediate actions, support should be planned in a long-term manner to help families not only survive the most challenging time after the flood but also rebuild their lives and regain their sense of stability. Direct financial assistance reaches those most in need, allowing them to decide how to allocate the funds.
