The ceremony on the occasion of World Humanitarian Day took place at the Presidential Palace. During it, the President of the Republic of Poland awarded state decorations and handed over coats of arms and state flags to humanitarian organizations on the occasion of World Humanitarian Day. Among the honored was the Polish Red Cross and representatives of our organization.
It was an opportunity to express gratitude and appreciation for the commitment of non-governmental organizations that work in the field of humanitarian aid in Poland and around the world. The President of the Republic of Poland, Andrzej Duda, awarded decorations to individuals particularly engaged in humanitarian actions for those affected by disasters, natural calamities, and armed conflicts. Piotr Pokorny, the chairman of the National Coordination Team for Humanitarian Aid, was awarded the Gold Cross of Merit.
This award is extremely important to me because it actually does not belong only to me. I believe that this honors hundreds of PCK volunteers who have organized humanitarian aid in recent years and have helped people often in the worst moments of their lives. I accept the distinction with humility and know that I am now facing more work in our humanitarian field - we have a lot of potential to show as PCK.

The Cross of Merit is an award granted since 1923 to individuals who have rendered services to the state or its citizens for activities that exceed the scope of their ordinary duties, bringing significant benefit to the state or its citizens, selfless public service, selfless provision of assistance, and charitable activities.
During the ceremony, representatives of organizations providing humanitarian aid in the country and abroad received a symbolic thank-you gift from the President of the Republic of Poland - state flags with a message. On behalf of the Polish Red Cross, it was received by President Jerzy Bisek.
This is a recognition of your persistent and selfless commitment to the good of others, providing selfless help to those in need, and continuously strengthening the spirit of peace, solidarity, and respect.

The readiness to act in times of crisis is one of the three pillars of the Polish Red Cross's activities. Humanitarian aid plays an extremely important role here. The Humanitarian Aid System in the Polish Red Cross deals with humanitarian assistance and has its own set of standards and procedures that ensure efficient functioning in all phases: preparedness, crisis response, and long-term assistance.
