Fire Rescuer - Hot Blood
About the program
The “Fire Rescuer – Hot Blood” program is a nationwide initiative aimed at professional firefighters and volunteers, promoting voluntary blood donation as a form of real support for saving health and life. Firefighters from the State Fire Service (PSP) and Volunteer Fire Department (OSP) organize blood drives, activating local communities and integrating firefighting environments around the idea of providing help.
The program is divided into three categories: the most active PSP unit, the most active OSP unit, and “Fire Rescuer” – an individual organizer distinguished by their commitment. For 19 years, the program has been developing cooperation between the Polish Red Cross and the Fire Department structures, contributing to the creation of new Honorary Blood Donor Clubs (HDK PCK) and strengthening the existing ones.

Need
Blood is a priceless medicine that cannot be produced, and its demand is particularly high. Firefighters, as natural heroes of local communities, have a unique potential to engage residents in voluntary blood donation.
The program addresses the growing need for blood collection, especially during shortages, and promotes the idea of sharing the "gift of life" in a systematic and organized manner. The involvement of the firefighting community is an excellent example of solidarity and care for others.
How do we help?
The implementation of the program is based on extensive activities encouraging firefighters and local communities to participate in voluntary blood donation:
Blood Donation Organization
units of PSP and OSP conduct donations in local communities, encouraging residents to donate blood.
Integration of the firefighting environment
firefighters participate in tournaments and competitions in three categories (the most active PSP units, OSP, and individual organizers).
Creating and Developing HDK PCK Clubs
Thanks to the involvement of firefighters, new Honorary Blood Donor clubs are being established, and existing ones are gaining new members.
Collaboration with public institutions
the program is implemented in collaboration with public blood service units as well as the structures of the State Fire Service and the Association of Volunteer Fire Services of Poland.
Program goals

Organization and course of the program
The program consists of three organizational levels:
- District stage – organized by the boards of the district branches of the Polish Red Cross (PCK) and the district councils of the Blood Donation Volunteers (HDK PCK).
- Regional stage – carried out by the boards of the regional branches of the Polish Red Cross (PCK) in cooperation with the State Fire Service (PSP) and the Volunteer Fire Department of the Republic of Poland (ZOSP RP).
- Central stage – conducted by the Main Board of the Polish Red Cross (PCK) and the National Council of Blood Donation Volunteers (HDK PCK), where winners are selected in three categories.
During the program, both the amount of blood donated and innovative, interesting campaigns promoting the idea of blood donation are evaluated. Thanks to the involvement of firefighters, the tournament becomes an effective tool in the fight to ensure a steady supply of blood, especially in times of crisis.
