Youth Blood Saves Lives
About the tournament
"Young Blood Saves Life" is a nationwide blood donation tournament aimed at high school, post-secondary, post-high school and university students. The main goal of the project is to popularize the idea of voluntary blood donation, encourage young people to join Honorary Blood Donor groups (HDK) and integrate youth communities at the local, district and central levels.
The tournament takes place every year and its structure is based on several stages, during which schools and universities compete in categories related to blood donor activity and the organization of campaigns promoting blood donation. Thanks to many years of tradition and the involvement of teachers and educators, the project allows young people to make a real contribution to saving the lives and health of people in need of blood.

Need
Blood is a priceless medicine that cannot be manufactured, and the only source is the human body. In Poland, there is an annual demand for blood, particularly during the holiday season, when its supply is insufficient. The project “Young Blood Saves Lives” addresses this issue by engaging youth in blood donation and raising awareness about the importance of blood donation in saving human lives.
Young people become not only blood donors but also ambassadors of the idea of providing help within their communities. The tournament brings together school and academic communities around values such as solidarity, responsibility, and selfless assistance, while also fostering pro-social attitudes.
How do we help?
The program "Young Blood Saves Lives" achieves its goals through a series of activities that engage students and pupils:
Blood donations:
Organization of blood donation activities in schools, universities, and individual visits to Blood Donation and Hemotherapy Centers.
Education and promotion:
Schools and universities conduct educational campaigns that promote the idea of voluntary blood donation and build awareness of its importance.
Multilevel tournament:
The project is being carried out in three stages – regional, district, and central – which motivates institutions to actively participate.
Awards and distinctions:
Institutions participating in the tournament have the opportunity to win awards and distinctions for the most interesting actions promoting blood donation and the highest activity rate.
Tournament Structure
The tournament „Young Blood Saves Lives” is organized in three stages, allowing for competition at different organizational levels. Each institution participating in the project has the opportunity for active participation and promoting the idea of blood donation in their environment.
- Regional stage: Organized by the district boards of the Polish Red Cross (PCK) and the Blood Donation Councils (HDK), it involves collecting data on the number of blood donors and the amount of blood donated.
- Distinct stage: The best schools and universities from the regional stages are nominated for the district stage. The activity rates and the quality of blood donation promotion campaigns are evaluated.
- Central stage: The highest distinctions are awarded to institutions that have achieved the best results on a national scale. At this stage, the most interesting campaigns promoting the idea of voluntary blood donation are also rewarded.
Categories of the tournament:
- Secondary, post-secondary, and after-school institutions: The activity rate of blood donors is evaluated.
- Higher education institutions: Analogous to schools, taking into account academic specifics.
- Most interesting campaigns promoting blood donation: Documented and evaluated based on creativity, engagement, and results.
The evaluation system and multi-level structure allow for full integration of the educational environment around the common goal of saving human health and lives.
