We show how important first aid is. We teach it in an unconventional and professional way. One occasion for this is the First Aid Championships organized by the Polish Red Cross. We have completed the central stage of the 31st edition of the Championships. This time it took place in Bydgoszcz.

Dangerous sting, sunstroke, chemical burns, a foot crushed by a digger's bucket, a severed leg, and evisceration during carpentry work, a carriage accident, electric shock, open fracture, and many profuse bleeding - these are just some of the situations that the contestants had to deal with during the First Aid Championships. Additionally, there was a theoretical test. A new feature of this championship was the dispatch center. As it turned out, conversations with dispatchers and calling for rescue services are also not easy.

Everything was very realistic, everything was real. We really cut clothes, we really washed off mud.

Emilia from the II General Secondary School named after Stefan Banach in Świdnica.

The competitors participating in the Championships at 16 stations they had to overcome encountered, among others, a surfer, models posing in wedding dresses, a cleaning crew, upset teenagers, a victim of peer hate, rock climbers, and curious seniors. Besides demonstrating knowledge about saving health and life, a challenge for the contestants was to cope with managing emotions, fatigue, and stressful situations.

Probably the most difficult thing in all of this was the overall management of emotions and stress. At the beginning of each station, there is a lot of commotion, we must clearly divide responsibilities so that everyone can cope with their injured person. During the Championships, we learned a lot regarding teamwork. We received compliments at many stations, but also remarks on what needed improvement. I consider this a very valuable lesson.

We are dealing with stress, working under stress, working under time pressure, cooperating with the entire team, communication among all of us. We learned a lot, we are grateful that we came here because the emotions are really great - Aleksandra from the II General Secondary School named after Stefan Banach in Świdnica.

In the overall classification, the team from the Świętokrzyskie Voivodeship performed the best. The second place on the podium was taken by the team from the Mazovian Voivodeship, and the third by the West Pomeranian Voivodeship.

This is our second year of struggles. Last year we dropped out in the regional stage, but this year we succeeded. We did not expect this, we knew that there are other strong voivodeships.

- Michał Malec from the winning team from the Świętokrzyskie Voivodeship (III LO named after Władysław Broniewski in Ostrowiec Świętokrzyski).

In addition, teams from the following voivodeships were distinguished:

Mazovian - the best result at the 'cliffs' station with PSP officers,

  • Lower Silesian - the best result at the 'monkey grove' station and the best first aid call,

  • Podlaskie - best provision of psychological comfort to the injured.
