KATAKIT® addresses the gap in crisis preparedness

Most Poles believe they could manage for a few days in a crisis situation. However, the data shows a clear difference between declarations and the actual level of preparedness. The response to this gap is KATAKIT® – an evacuation backpack designed for the first 72 hours of a crisis.
KATAKIT® was developed with the participation of experts from the Polish Red Cross and specialists in rescue and civil protection. Its equipment was selected with the first three days in mind, during which it may be necessary to cope independently without external support – until help arrives or basic services are restored.
The kit includes, among other things, first aid articles, a multifunctional flashlight, a 40-hour candle, a multifunctional knife, an SOS panel, a whistle, chemical lights, a water container, and tablets for water purification. The backpack should be supplemented with items that meet individual needs, such as prescribed medications, documents or their copies, cash, additional water and food, a power bank, and items necessary for children or pets.
Declarations vs. actual readiness
Only 37% of respondents consider it likely that a crisis or disaster could directly affect themselves or their families. 36% of Poles have read the government “Safety Guide”, but only 7% have implemented the recommendations contained within it. Even fewer people – only 4% of respondents – have prepared an evacuation backpack. This is the result of a study conducted by Zymetria on behalf of the Polish Red Cross in August 2026.
Four percent is a number that should give us pause. KATAKIT® was created to facilitate one of the fundamental steps in crisis preparation, gathering the most important gear in one place. Expert knowledge was used in selecting the contents. We want the evacuation backpack to be treated similarly to a first aid kit or fire extinguisher: we hope it won't be needed, but if the moment comes to use it, there may already be too little time to gather the equipment
Two variants of KATAKIT®
KATAKIT® is available in two variants: a single-person version priced at 349.90 zł and a family version designed for a maximum of four people, priced at 649.90 zł. Currently, pre-orders for the backpacks are ongoing. The shipment of the first orders is planned for December 2026.
Purchasing KATAKIT® also has a charitable aspect. The income from the sale of each backpack supports the Rescue Fund, which enables the Polish Red Cross to enhance its readiness to provide assistance in the event of disasters, crises, and other emergencies.
