From September 10 to 13, rescue maneuvers of the Polish Red Cross Pomerania 2026 took place in Reda. Rescuers and officials from Poland and abroad improved their skills in conducting operations in scenarios inspired by real industrial and humanitarian disasters. The maneuvers concluded with a family picnic.

Pomerania 2026 is one of the most important exercises of the Polish Red Cross Rescue System. Over 200 rescuers and officials participated: police, State and Volunteer Fire Service, Pomeranian Territorial Defense Brigade, as well as services and teams responsible for crisis management and population protection. The maneuvers had an international character - among the participants was a team from the Lithuanian Red Cross.

Exercises in conditions similar to real ones

During the four days, participants faced demanding scenarios aimed at testing not only individual skills of rescuer but, above all, the cooperation of many teams and services.

Scenarios for providing assistance to victims in the event of large disasters of an industrial and humanitarian nature were practiced, including at facilities of critical infrastructure.

– says Maciej Krzesiński, head of the Special Rescue Group of the Polish Red Cross Tricity, which organized the exercises.

Rescuers conducted operations in urban, industrial, port, railway, and forested areas. They practiced, among others, in a municipal heating plant, in port areas, at the Rapid Urban Rail base, and in hard-to-access forest areas. One of the elements of the maneuvers was a night search and rescue operation.

Such varied scenarios allowed testing of procedures and communication between teams, as well as the ability to make quick decisions under pressure and time constraints.

Maneuvers of this type and scale are extremely important for the development of rescue operations in the Polish Red Cross on several levels. Firstly, they allow for the exchange of experiences with other uniformed formations with which we cooperate in the field of rescue and search: PSP, police, or WOT. Equally important is the exchange of experiences and improvement of cooperation between the Rescue Groups of the Polish Red Cross from all over Poland. Additionally, thanks to such a large number of rescuers, we can improve the management and coordination of a large number of teams. Here, huge thanks go to the organizer GRS PCK Tricity, which allowed us to operate in very diverse conditions, such as train compositions, technical buildings, and a huge passenger ferry.

– summarizes Marcin Kowalski, chairman of the National Coordination Team for Rescue and Population Protection of the Polish Red Cross.

Rescue and Services Picnic

The conclusion of the maneuvers was a picnic in the City Park in Reda. Participants had the opportunity to see demonstrations of rescue equipment and there were rescuers, police officers, and firefighters who shared information about their activities and ongoing operations.

An important element of the event was also teaching first aid. Participants could practice how to behave in a situation of health or life threat and how to properly assist an injured person. This is particularly important, as in many situations the first minutes – before professional services arrive on the scene – can make a significant difference. The organizers also prepared attractions for the youngest, including a field game.

Pomerania 2026 is a major event for the Polish Red Cross, but above all an investment in readiness to provide assistance and collaborative work to ensure that in the face of a disaster or other threat, rescuers and services are better prepared for quick, effective, and coordinated action.
