Seniors

For many older people in Poland, everyday life means quiet, lonely hours in an empty house. Only the television, radio, or memories from the past fill the space that was recently bustling with life.

Day after day goes by, and loneliness becomes more and more overwhelming, taking away joy and energy for life. Sometimes one conversation, a shared moment, or a warm smile is enough for a senior to feel better, to remember that they are still needed. The Senior Clubs of the Polish Red Cross were created just to give hope, support, and a sense of belonging to those who are often deprived of companionship on a daily basis.

Why are the Senior Clubs of the Polish Red Cross so important?

In Poland, there are 28 Senior Clubs run by the Polish Red Cross. For seniors, it is the only place where they feel truly seen and surrounded by kindness, where loneliness momentarily ceases to exist. In these clubs, seniors participate in physical activities, artistic workshops, educational meetings, and intergenerational events. This is where they can talk, share joys and worries, and also learn something new. It is more than a place – it is a second home, where everyone is accepted.

Mrs. Maria, a 75-year-old senior from Warsaw, says: “Without the Senior Club, it would be very hard for me. Here I meet people, I can laugh, I can leave the house and not feel lonely. It gives me strength for the coming days.” Mrs. Maria is just one of many voices of older people who have regained the will to live and joy in everyday life thanks to the Senior Clubs.

Physical activity that brings health and strength.

One of the important elements of the Senior Clubs are movement activities. Many older people have limited mobility and face various health problems that make physical activity a challenge. Gymnastics, nordic walking, strengthening exercises – these are just some of the activities offered by the Senior Clubs. Thanks to them, seniors feel better physically, and movement also has a positive impact on their mental well-being.

Educational and cultural workshops – development at any age.

The Senior Clubs of the Polish Red Cross are also a space for development and discovering new passions. Seniors can participate in artistic workshops, computer courses, or literary meetings. They rediscover their passions from youth, discover new interests, and gain the sense that even in the autumn of life, one can develop, acquire new skills, and realize dreams.

Building intergenerational bonds – seniors and youth together

The Senior Clubs of the Polish Red Cross are also a place for meetings with younger generations. Through intergenerational programs, seniors have the opportunity to collaborate with children, youth, and adults, creating unique bonds based on mutual understanding and respect. For young people, it is an opportunity to learn from the elderly, to listen to their stories, and to understand their perspective on the world.
