How to treat a dog and provide necessary assistance until the arrival of a veterinarian? - answers to these and other questions were provided by rescuers of the Polish Red Cross during presentations and workshops as part of the conference on the occasion of International Rescue Dog Day.

On April 26, at the Museum of Warsaw Praga, on the occasion of International Rescue Dog Day, a conference devoted to health and safety in the work and training of rescue dogs was held. During it, specialists from various fields discussed many aspects related to the work of service dogs, including their physical preparation, nutrition, assistance to senior dogs, and rehabilitation after injuries. Among the panelists was also Adrianna Szczerba from the PCK Rescue Group in Bydgoszcz. Adrianna has been training people in first aid for over 20 years, and recently also for four-legged ones. During her presentation, she delivered theoretical knowledge about first aid for dogs. She talked about what is worth having in a first aid kit for a dog, how to keep a cool head when our pet has an accident, how to assess its consciousness, and how to immobilize it if necessary.

The participants of the conference showed great interest in the practical workshops prepared by the rescuers of the Polish Red Cross trained in providing first aid to animals. At several stations, everyone could obtain many tips and suggestions regarding the safety of quadrupeds, as well as gain practical skills that can save a dog's life - from the basics: how to calm the animal, applying a makeshift muzzle, or putting on a bandage, to more complicated: stopping bleeding, dealing with choking, or performing cardiopulmonary resuscitation. The workshops were held using professional mannequins and tools.
