The "Power of BLOOD Diversity" is the first nationwide contest for female blood donors in the history of blood donation. As part of the contest, honorary female donors will donate blood, as well as encourage other women: their friends, mothers, daughters, or sisters to donate.
Blood is a priceless and irreplaceable medicine that restores health, saving the lives of the sick and accident victims, which is why it is so important for blood banks to be full all year round and that no blood type is missing. This priceless gift cannot be produced; we can only share it with others.
According to the Central Statistical Office in Poland, in 2022, over 622 thousand people donated blood. Among them, over 621 thousand were honorary blood donors. Just under 25% of them are women. To become a deserving honorary donor, men must donate at least 6 liters of blood, while women must donate at least 5 liters.
For nearly 90 years, the Polish Red Cross has been promoting the idea of blood donation. The first Honorary Blood Donor Clubs (HDK PCK) were established in the late 1950s. Last year, there were 696 HDK PCK Clubs. There were 18,481 blood donors in them, of which 29% are women (5,424 female donors).
Through the contest "Power of BLOOD Diversity" the Polish Red Cross wants to encourage women to donate blood. To show how important it is to "share yourself with others," honorary donors will invite other women to donate blood together as part of the contest. The Polish Red Cross will reward the most active honorary blood donors who encourage the most first-time donors.
The contest "Power of BLOOD Diversity" will last from October 2 to February 29. The results of the contest will be announced on March 8, 2024.The partner of the contest is the National Blood Center.
