A nationwide campaign called 'School Supplies for Students' is aimed at Polish and Ukrainian children.
The beginning of the school year is a time when the Polish Red Cross pays special attention to students across the country. This year – following the precedent of previous years – we are distributing school supplies for Polish children and, for the second time: Ukrainian children.
Each school kit consists of a backpack and a well-equipped pencil case. In total, the Polish Red Cross – with the support of our partners Amazon Poland and Holcim – will provide16,000 school supplies worth over 2 million PLN.
The 'School Supplies for Students' campaign has been conducted by the Polish Red Cross since 1999. 'This is concrete support for Polish and Ukrainian families. For the recipients themselves, it's a dignified start to the new school year,' says Michał Mikołajczyk, a member of the PCK Management Board.
According to the latest GUS report, 'The Scope of Economic Poverty in Poland in 2022' [June 30, 2023], the average material situation of households has significantly worsened, among other reasons due to high inflation. 1.7 million citizens live in extreme poverty.
The Polish Red Cross does not limit its support for students to the September 'School Supplies for Students' campaign. We help throughout the year, including conducting feeding programs in schools. In 2022,130,000 children received assistance from the PCK in various forms.
