Yellow plate

National program created to support the nutrition system for children. The main goal of the project is to improve the nutritional situation of children and adolescents from low-income families and to activate families to support proper nutrition in schools.

About the program

"Żółty Talerz" is the largest private program of nutritional support for children in Poland, implemented by Kulczyk Foundation since 2016. Thanks to cooperation with the largest aid organizations, such as Polish Red Cross, Caritas, Towarzystwo Przyjaciół Dzieci, SOS Wioski Dziecięce and Food Banks, the program reaches thousands of children throughout the country.

The program aims to improve the quality of meals in canteens, community centers and care facilities, as well as nutritional education for children and adults. The program's activities include not only the delivery of meals, but also psychological and educational support, which build lasting habits of healthy eating and health care. The program is a unique alliance of aid organizations and expert institutions, aimed at creating a new standard in child nutrition.

Need

In Poland, the issue of child malnutrition remains a serious social challenge. According to estimates, over 400 thousand children live in extreme poverty, which means their families are unable to provide them with adequate nutrition that meets their basic developmental needs. The lack of healthy and regular meals affects not only the physical health of the youngest but also their ability to concentrate, learning efficiency, and overall quality of life.

This situation is particularly evident in schools and community centers, where children from low-income families often become excluded from their peer group due to lack of access to nutritious meals. The scarcity of healthy food not only limits their educational opportunities but also impacts their emotional and social development.

In recent years, especially after the outbreak of the war in Ukraine, this problem has become even more complex. Thousands of refugee children have arrived in Poland, who also need support in meeting basic needs, including access to adequate nutrition.

The additional challenge is the low awareness of healthy eating among both children and their parents or guardians. Many families do not know the principles of balanced nutrition, which leads to the adoption of poor habits, such as excessive use of salt, sugar, or unhealthy products. Therefore, nutritional education and the promotion of healthy habits become a key element in addressing the problem of malnutrition.

The program “Yellow Plate” responds to these needs, providing children not only with access to healthy meals but also with education about their importance, which allows for long-term improvement in the quality of life for young people and their families.
