Super Squirrel - friend of Ola and Kuba

The program teaches children a healthy lifestyle, first aid, and safety, fostering empathy and responsibility. It is an investment in a safe and conscious future for the youngest.

About the program

The “Super Wiewiórka – Friend of Ola and Kuba” program is a nationwide educational initiative of the Polish Red Cross that has been implemented for over 20 years. Its goal is to educate preschool children and students in grades 1-3 of primary schools in the field of healthy lifestyle, safety and the basics of first aid. The program combines learning with fun, engaging children in interactive workshops and practical activities.

Thanks to the involvement of teachers, volunteers and teaching materials, “Super Wiewiórka” supports children in acquiring life skills that will stay with them for many years. The program is implemented in kindergartens and schools throughout Poland, and the materials are also available in online versions for teachers and educators.

At the beginning of 2002, a pilot edition was carried out in three districts: Lubuskie, Łódź and Małopolska, in which 1,200 children from 30 kindergartens were trained. Today, the program is currently implemented in kindergartens and primary schools in grades 1-3 throughout Poland.

Need

In today's times, children are increasingly exposed to dangers arising from a lack of knowledge about health, safety, and responding to crisis situations. Home accidents, lack of first aid skills, and hazards on the road require early education that will enable them to consciously take care of themselves and others.

The "Super Squirrel" program addresses these needs by providing children with knowledge and skills in an accessible and engaging way. Through the activities, participants learn how to behave safely in various situations, take care of their health, and look after the environment. The program promotes responsibility and empathy, which are crucial at every stage of life.

How do we help?

The "Super Squirrel" program achieves its goals through extensive educational activities and initiatives tailored to the needs of children:

Image

Practical classes and workshops:
Children learn the principles of a healthy lifestyle, hygiene, road safety, and basic first aid. Workshops include, among other things, checking for breath, placing an injured person in the recovery position, and calling for help.

Image

Interactive educational materials:
The program offers guides, coloring books, posters, and educational games that support learning through play and engage children in the education process.

Image

Cooperation with teachers and parents:
Instructional and methodological materials support adults in conducting activities and implementing health and safety principles in everyday life.

Image

Road safety:
Children learn responsible movement as pedestrians and cyclists, wearing reflective gear and obeying traffic rules.

Image

Ecology and environmental protection:
The program promotes care for the environment through the teaching of waste segregation and eco-friendly habits.

Awards and certificates:
Participants receive IDs, pins, stickers, and diplomas that motivate further engagement and reinforce the skills acquired.

Program structure

The "Super Squirrel – Friend of Ola and Kuba" program is divided into stages that introduce children to the world of health, safety, and helping others in an accessible way. Each stage includes:

  • Theory and practice: Each session consists of a theoretical part, during which children acquire knowledge, and a practical part, where they practice new skills.
  • Activity scenarios: Age-appropriate educational materials include detailed scenarios, methodological tips, and suggestions for activities.
  • Interactive exercises: Sessions are diversified with educational games, coloring pages, and exercises that engage children and reinforce their knowledge.
  • Teaching tools: The program offers methodological guides, coloring pages, posters, and educational games that facilitate the implementation of classes by teachers and educators.
  • Awards and certificates: At the end of the series of classes, children receive diplomas and special badges that serve as proof of their engagement and motivate them to continue learning.

Thanks to its well-organized structure, the program allows for a gradual introduction of topics and the consolidation of acquired skills in an attractive form tailored to children's needs.

Values of the program

The "Super Squirrel" program promotes key values that shape aware and responsible citizens:

Empathy and helping others:
Learning to care for the health and safety of loved ones and developing a readiness to provide assistance.

Responsibility for oneself and the environment:
Shaping habits related to hygiene, a healthy lifestyle, and an ecological approach to daily activities.

Safety:
Promoting responsible behaviors in various situations, both at home and on the road.

Collaboration:
The ability to work together and resolve conflicts.

Collaboration and Integration:
Developing teamwork skills and strengthening bonds among peers.
