#odNOWAzPCK – a long-term assistance program for flood victims
Even though half a year has passed since the September flood, many families are still struggling with its effects. The consequences are felt in many communities and some of the victims still cannot return to their homes, the renovation of which requires huge financial outlays. Some have lost their life's work, others their source of income, which means that support is still very much needed.
The Polish Red Cross has been helping flood victims from the very beginning and has consistently implemented long-term aid projects under the slogan #odNOWAzPCK. Their aim is to rebuild and renovate destroyed homes and support in returning to normal life.
The Polish Red Cross, thanks to the support of individual, business and institutional donors, has raised over PLN 40 million to help people affected by the flood. Thanks to this, we are currently helping with renovations and supporting families and lonely seniors in rebuilding their safe place on earth. PCK branches are working with local authorities to thoroughly examine the needs and qualify those most in need for the program.
What are we doing?
Financial and material assistance
We will provide families with funds for rebuilding their homes and renovating them in the form of vouchers or prepaid cards, which they can use to purchase furniture, appliances, or household items, as well as necessary building materials. They can also use these funds for their current living expenses, which are often very difficult after losing their home and job.
Equipping institutions and facilities
Based on applications, we allocate funds for the equipping of institutions such as schools, kindergartens, hospitals, nursing homes, or other public utility places.
Help for Families and Seniors
In cooperation with local authorities, we reach the most needy families and lonely seniors who are often helpless in the face of tragedy. In the first phase of assistance, we organized Green Schools for students, and we are currently preparing summer camps for children from flooded areas and rehabilitation stays for seniors.
Education for the Future
We organize training sessions and workshops that help better prepare for potential future events. The Polish Red Cross runs an educational program for children and adults under the slogan "Be Safe", which teaches how to prepare for crisis situations, including events such as floods.
Psychological Support
We offer psychological assistance because we understand how important it is to rebuild not only a home but also a sense of safety and stability.

Rapid assistance from the Polish Red Cross from the first days of the flood
- On the same day that the flood hit the southern regions of Poland, rescue teams from the PCK Rescue Groups and Humanitarian Aid Groups operating in those areas were deployed to assist the flood victims. In the following days, groups from all over Poland joined in. PCK employees and volunteers began organizing collections and support for those affected.
- In evacuation sites, we distributed:
- 215 industrial dehumidifiers for removing moisture from buildings and infrastructure, which are still being loaned to residents drying out their homes,
- 237 electric heaters and 3 oil heaters providing warmth,
- 250 radiators and 150 electric cookers,
- over 3,000 hygiene packages and sleeping packages enabling the evacuees to have dignified living conditions.
- We participated in strengthening flood embankments. Every day, we provided water and over 6000 meals for volunteers and residents securing the embankments.
- We delivered food and water to hard-to-reach areas, such as Głuchołazy, Kłodzko, and many other towns cut off from the world in the first days of the flood.
- For weeks, we delivered food and hygiene supplies, collected during PCK drives across Poland, totaling nearly 900 tons in over 200 transports.
- We were designated for comprehensive coordination of humanitarian aid and medical support throughout the entire municipality of Stronie Śląskie.
- We organized Green Schools for over 800 children.
- We provided psychological support, collaborating with psychologists from the University of Lower Silesia DSW in Wrocław. We launched a free psychological support hotline for individuals dealing with trauma and stress caused by the flood.

Financial and material assistance
Financial support for families that suffered the most due to the September flood in southwestern Poland is one of the key elements of the #odNOWAzPCK program. It is being implemented step by step in the individual towns and municipalities most affected by the flood to reach as many needy people as possible, including those outside urban centers. We want the support to be available for families and households in the most difficult situations and tailored to their actual needs.
So far, the program has qualified 345 households, comprising 942 people, and has provided beneficiaries with funds amounting to 1.16 million PLN. Ultimately, the total amount allocated to the already qualified households will amount to 2.62 million PLN.
Registration for the program has so far included residents of the Bystrzyca Kłodzka and Kłodzko (rural municipality) areas. Assistance has reached families from many locations, including Ołdrzychowice Kłodzkie, Żelazna, Krosnowice, Ścinawica, Wilkanów, Gorzanów, Stary Waliszów, Morzyszów, Bystrzyca Kłodzka, as well as individual households in Wójtowice, Pławnica, Zabłocie, Idzików, Młynów, and Międzygórze.
Who is the financial support intended for within the program?
The program is primarily aimed at individuals from the Lower Silesian Voivodeship and, at later stages, also from the Opole Voivodeship. Assistance is available to households whose members:
- had to leave their previous place of residence and, at the time of joining the program, still live outside it;
- lost their primary source of income.
The Polish Red Cross offers financial support for a period of three months. The assistance is provided in the form of transfers to the account of one of the household members. Household members can allocate it to any current needs. We realize that in such a crisis, the needs of the affected individuals can be very diverse, and they know best which of them are the most urgent. Therefore, we propose a form of assistance that is flexible and leaves the decision in the hands of those who need it.

- Purchase of medical equipment for the Hospital in Kłodzko (total amount 918 thousand PLN);

Help for families and seniors
Carrying assistance to flood victims, we focus primarily on those most affected and on marginalized or the weakest groups. These include low-income families, who were already struggling to maintain their households before the flood, children, especially from large families, and lonely seniors who cannot count on help and support from their families.
We provide:
- Financial support for families (see Financial and Material Assistance);
- Camps for children, which will be organized in the summer months of 2025. During the trips, we also provide psychological support;
- Respite and therapeutic-rehabilitation stays for seniors.
Education for the future
The Polish Red Cross has been educating children and adults for years on how to prepare for emergencies and disasters. Knowledge and awareness of the steps to take help in emergency situations, such as flooding, to cooperate effectively with rescue services and take care of your family and close surroundings. The PRC runs a program under the slogan Be Safe.
Additionally, we educate about wise helping, which is especially important in crisis situations. Knowing the principles helps us provide assistance to those in need in a wise and professional manner.
