As part of the public task of the Municipality of Sandomierz "Activation of elderly people, intergenerational integration", seniors associated with the Polish Red Cross spent an extraordinary day in Rudnik nad Sanem – a town known as the Polish capital of wicker.
Seniors from Sandomierz at the Wicker Center – actively and creatively!
At the Wicker Center, they participated in a six-hour workshop, during which, under the guidance of an experienced instructor, they learned the art of weaving. The beginnings were demanding – precision, patience, and focus were key – but the results exceeded expectations. Each participant created their own flowers and baskets from wicker, which brought them immense satisfaction and pride.
After completing the handicraft work, the seniors took part in a walk along the Wicker Sculpture Trail, admiring unique installations made of wicker – from fanciful figures to functional artistic forms.
The trip not only broadened the horizons of the participants and allowed them to acquire new skills, but also became an opportunity for integration, shared conversations, and pleasant time together. It is a perfect example that activity and creativity have no age, and seniors can still discover new passions.
