The work of a personal assistant for a person with a disability is much more than the scope of duties recorded in a program or daily schedule. It is the daily presence of another human being—full of empathy, patience, and kindness flowing straight from the heart. It is about building a relationship based on trust, safety, and mutual respect.

The assistant often becomes something more than just help with daily activities. They are a support in difficult moments, a conversation partner, a witness to small successes and daily emotions. It involves long conversations, shared laughter, sometimes silence, which also provides a sense of closeness and understanding. It is the warmth that cannot be codified in any regulations or accounted for in working hours. In this work, the most important thing is the person—their dignity, needs, dreams, and the feeling that they are not alone. A good assistant does not act out of obligation but out of attentiveness and heart. They can see more than just physical needs—they see emotions, fears, loneliness, but also the strength and uniqueness of the person they accompany.

It is a job that requires immense sensitivity, responsibility, and commitment. A job that teaches humility, gratitude, and shows how great a value the simple presence of another human being has.

The above photographs perfectly reflect what the work of a personal assistant for a person with a disability really is. They show not only the time spent together or the performance of daily duties but, above all, a true relationship—full of kindness, trust, and warmth. These images illustrate presence, attentiveness, and support that cannot be learned solely from procedures or program records. These photographs also remind us that being an assistant is not just about helping in daily life but also about presence that provides strength, motivation, and the feeling that there is someone next to you who truly understands and supports. Sometimes one good word, a shared walk, or an ordinary conversation has more value than any formal help. It is in these simple, everyday moments that the sense of this work—full of empathy, heart, and genuine humanity—can be best seen.

The program "Personal Assistant for Persons with Disabilities for Non-Governmental Organizations" has been implemented by the Kujawsko-Pomorskie District Branch of the Polish Red Cross since 2022.
