The Polish Red Cross (PCK) has been implementing programs since 2014 aimed at supporting the most vulnerable individuals by providing food assistance.

Currently, PCK is implementing the European Funds for Food Assistance Program 2021-2027 (FEPŻ), which is the direct successor of the Operational Program for Food Assistance 2014-2020. FEPŻ is co-financed by the European Social Fund Plus (EFS+) and national funds.

Goal of the FEPŻ Program

The goal of the FEPŻ program is to combat material deprivation by providing food assistance or basic material aid to those most in need. The program also includes accompanying activities aimed at supporting the social inclusion of beneficiaries, including children, through access to social and health services and advice on managing household budgets.

Income Criteria

As of February 12, 2024, new income criteria apply for eligibility for food assistance:

  • 2,056.40 PLN for a single-person household (265% of the income criterion qualifying for benefits in social assistance).

  • 1,590 PLN for a person in a family (265% of the income criterion qualifying for benefits in social assistance).

Forms of Assistance

Food assistance under FEPŻ is provided in the form of food packages or meals, including vegetable, fruit, starchy, dairy, meat products, as well as sugar and oil. Additionally, partner organizations such as PCK carry out accompanying activities aimed at combating social exclusion and strengthening the autonomy of beneficiaries.

Accompanying Activities

PCK, as part of the FEPŻ program, organizes a number of educational workshops aimed at:

  • Teaching the principles of healthy eating and preventing food waste.

  • Conducting culinary workshops for various generational groups.

  • Organizing dietary workshops.

  • Economic education including the creation, implementation, and control of household budgets.

Program Implementation

In 2019, PCK provided food to 113,000 people, of which 10% were elderly individuals. The FEPŻ program continues these activities, with a budget of 583 million EUR for the period 2021-2027, which allows for broad support for individuals and families in difficult life situations.

Contact and Information

More information about the FEPŻ program and the qualification criteria for assistance can be obtained on the websites of the Ministry of Family and Social Policy and PCK.
