Earthquake in Afghanistan

On October 7, a strong earthquake struck western Afghanistan. Within just one hour, the ground shook four times. The epicenter of the tremors, with a magnitude of 6.3, was located in the town of Zinda Jan, about 35 kilometers northwest of the city of Herat in western Afghanistan. As a result of the catastrophe, at least 2,445 people lost their lives, and over 9,000 were injured.


Teams from the Afghan Red Crescent (ARC) are active at the disaster site, where they are providing humanitarian assistance to the affected. ARC staff and volunteers have prepared temporary shelters for those who lost their homes. The victims are receiving food packages containing products such as: bread, dates, rice, water, and pasta.


Additionally, the Afghan Red Crescent has sent medical teams to the Herat region to provide first aid and psychosocial support.
