Earthquake in Turkey and Syria

The earthquake that struck Turkey and Syria in February 2023 was one of the most tragic natural disasters in recent years.

General information

The earthquake that struck Turkey and Syria in February 2023 was one of the deadliest natural disasters in recent years. The 7.8 and 7.5 magnitude quakes devastated vast areas in southeastern Turkey and Syria, with repercussions felt in neighboring countries.

The disaster left over 50,000 people dead, tens of thousands injured, and thousands of families homeless. The Polish Red Cross (PCK) initiated a comprehensive humanitarian aid program to support the victims of this tragedy, both through immediate aid and long-term activities to rebuild the lives of communities.

Support for rescuers and volunteers:

Sending Polish volunteers and specialized rescue teams.

Conducting search for survivors, caring for the injured, and distributing humanitarian aid.

What are we collecting for?

  • Purchase of food, water, medicines, and medical supplies.
  • Provision of hygiene products, blankets, sleeping bags, and field beds for survivors.
  • Logistical support, including the transportation of aid to disaster-affected regions.
  • Maintenance of rescue and volunteer activities at the site of the tragedy.

The importance of donor engagement

Every zloty donated by individual donors was of immense importance in saving lives and providing essential humanitarian aid. Thanks to their support, the Polish Red Cross was able to effectively respond to the needs of those affected by the disaster, and the aid could reach on time, which was crucial in dramatic circumstances.
