Daily assistance

Children need your support every day
The data is undeniable: over 360,000 kids still live without basic needs being met: they suffer from hunger, lack sufficient access to medical care, and are excluded from daily activities.
Due to poverty, many suffer, but children are affected in the most severe way. It leaves a lasting mark on their entire lives. Children need our support. Every day.

Kasia lives with her mother and grandmother in a small house in the Lesser Poland Voivodeship, under difficult conditions. The family struggles with basic living issues and needs almost everything, mainly: food, fuel, household appliances.
Kasia, like any girl her age, has her wishes and dreams. She needed a computer, tablet, or laptop for studying, but she is happy with every surprise, even the smallest one.

Supporting children - what do we spend the collected funds on?
Meals in Polish Red Cross's community and integration centers or schools - regularly used by 9,000 children.
Food parcels and food aid programs targeted at entire families - in 2025 we distributed 446,000 food parcels and packages.
Emergency assistance. In 2025, we met the individual needs of 11,000 children in the most vulnerable situations by providing items such as clothing, rehabilitation equipment, and teaching aids.
Organization of recreation during the holidays (summer camps, day camps, trips, and activities organized at the Integration Centers). In 2025, we organized holidays for 1,000 children from the poorest families.
Educational activities. We run a range of educational programs on healthy eating, tolerance and empathy, safety, and first aid. 47,000 children benefit from them annually.
School supplies. Every year, we provide thousands of children with school supplies: backpacks, pencil cases, notebooks, and other educational materials.
Psychological support. Children under the care of the Polish Red Cross regularly receive psychological support. This is crucial for building self-esteem and a sense of security.
Community Centers and Integration Centers. The Polish Red Cross operates dozens of community centers and Integration Centers across Poland, where language classes, integration events, and ongoing educational support are held.
Support for particularly vulnerable children - those with disabilities and those living in orphanages. This includes specialized classes at Polish Red Cross facilities, assistance for families with care, material assistance, and integration events.
Children need your support. Every day
Thanks to you, a child from a needy family does not have to go to bed hungry, they can spend a joyful and active day at the PCK summer camp or receive comprehensive psychological support.

PCK assistance is not only tangible backpacks or meals. It is also organizing free time, building self-confidence, support in difficult moments and all activities that do not let a child think about themselves as “poor,” “worse,” or “weaker” than their peers.
In Poland, there are no needy children - this is not true.
MYTH 1: "Every child has their basic needs ensured"
The numbers are absolute: 364,000 children in Poland live in extreme poverty, which means lack of food and insufficient: heating, clothing, and access to healthcare. These are not "worse conditions," but situations that threaten health and even life.
MYTH 2: "Social programs have solved the problem"
Programs such as Family 800+ (s (Poland's social policy program for families with children under 18) and support from Social Assistance Centers help many families. However, this does not mean that they completely solve the problem of child poverty. Why?
- Living costs are rising faster than support – inflation, food prices, energy, or housing make benefits insufficient to cover all basic needs.
- Not every family copes equally well – in difficult situations, various problems often overlap: illness, disability, lack of work, indebtedness, or family crises. Financial benefits alone do not address all these challenges.
- The system does not reach everyone – there are excluded families that do not benefit from available assistance (e.g., due to lack of knowledge, administrative barriers, or shame).
- Misuse of funds - money received from public sources is not always allocated to the most important needs of children.
- Support is not just money – children also need a stable environment, access to education, healthcare, and opportunities for development. This cannot be ensured solely through financial transfers.
MYTH 3: "You can see poor children immediately"
Poverty is often hidden. Children go to school, smile, but for example, do not eat nutritious meals, do not have conditions for learning, or give up activities for financial reasons.
MYTH 4: "In Poland, things are too good for children to really suffer from deprivation"
The level of development of a country does not eliminate inequalities. Even in developing economies, there are groups that do not benefit from overall growth.
FACT: In a country that is the 20th economy in the world, there are still children who do not get enough to eat, borrow old backpacks from siblings, and spend entire summers at home scrolling on their phones. Contrary to appearances, there are very many such children in Poland.

Why is supporting children so important?
In childhood, the future chances in life of each of us are shaped. The lack of access to adequate nutrition, healthcare, or stable living conditions can lead to lasting consequences, both physical and mental.
Poverty limits development opportunities, hinders learning, and often excludes children from activities that are part of everyday life for their peers. Without support, these disparities deepen over time, entrenching social inequalities for future generations. Investing in children has an impact on the future of society as a whole: greater chances for education, independence, and active participation in social and professional life.
